Sushi Wasabi Edmonton, AB Tasty seared salmon maki special, lemon sorbet along with the usual

Rating Food 8.5/10, Service 9/10
With yet another craving for sushi, we headed to our fav Edmonton sushi joint for a serving of omega-3's!  On the special board tonight was the seared salmon maki which we had enjoyed a little while back, so it went on our list of things to eat tonight. Service is fast and efficient with the recent addition of staff both in the kitchen and in the dining room.
the APPYS
Shrimp tempura
The tender sweet shrimp was deep fried to perfection, coated in a light, crispy tempura, well drained of grease. Got a bonus piece of tempura'ed broccoli too! Mmmmm!

Wakame salad
Spicy, tangy, addictive and good for you. Mmmm! Its a bit more on the acidic side today than usual - probably as it wasn't well drained and had more dressing that usual.

Seared Salmon Maki
These maki are filled with a layer of seasoned rice, seared salmon belly, thinly slivered red onions, diced green onions and garnished with freshly cracked pepper. We ordered two rolls as we liked them the last time we came

The salmon belly was cooked thru - last time it was gently seared and raw in the centre (which we preferred), but still a tasty roll!

the FOOD

Our usual...
We're starting to get predictable now as we always order tekkamaki, Salmon, Tuna and scallop sushi nigiri

Tekkamaki
Bite sized creamy cool tuna in well seasoned sushi rice with just the right proportions of wasabi and roasted nori. Mmmmm!!

Salmon and Maguro (tuna) nigiri
Salmon was creamy and sweet, though oddly 2 pieces were cut without the usual skill we experience - off night perhaps.  The tuna was nicely fresh and buttery smooth against the well seasoned tangy rice. Nom!

Scallop sushi nigiri
Silky sweet, cool and delicious as usual - using a full large scallop per nigiri instead of a sliver compared to other restaurants. Mmmm!

the DESSERT
We saved room (barely) for dessert.  We went with one of their smallest desserts - a lemon sorbet filled frozen lemon. A nice light and refreshing way to clean the palate and end the meal

the VERDICT
Overall, still the best Japanese restaurant in Edmonton.
