Menyatai Japanese Ramen, Calgary, AB - fab takoyaki balls and ramen
On a recent trip down to Calgary (lots of wedding planning so lots of trips between Edmonton and Calgary since the bride and groom's parents live in different cities so there's gonna be a bit more Calgary restaurants reviews than the usual for the next little while), my cousin, his fiancée and I hit up Menyatai Japanese Ramen for lunch. Its Korean owned, and it's name Menyatai means kiosk or fast food. Since ramen is the quintessential fast food as in quick (not grease and calorie laden as it means in North America) in Japan and Korea, its aptly named as service is friendly and super fast!Wednesday, 8 April 2015
Turkey and pork cranberry meatballs recipe - taste of turkey dinner in one bite!
I was craving turkey dinner. The full on turkey with cranberry sauce and gravy and mashed potatoes and... it was nowhere near Thanksgiving nor Christmas nor Easter (okay, its Easter now by the time I posted this lol!), so ack when then, I wasn't going to be able to get my hands on a whole turkey easily. But you can usually get fresh ground turkey year round. Then it hit me.. why not try making meatballs that incorporate the taste of a turkey dinner in one bite? Sun Chiu Kee BBQ Restaurant 新釗記 Calgary, AB - great lunch menu and BBQ pork!
On a sunny Sunday morning, we waded into the crowds at Sun Chiu Kee BBQ Restaurant. Its just located inside a grocery store and it was packed even early in the morning as patrons lined up to order BBQ items to take home and what looked like a choreographed chaos inside the bistro/cafe sitting area where it was a frenzy of noise, food and busy efficient waitstaff running around. Jacek Chocolate Couture - jewel like chocolate gems with flavours that change every season.. and Easter chicks!
Its been a little while since I've dropped into Jacek Chocolates. We loved the bright, bubbly spirit of Jacek and got to meet her (read about it here) and super enjoyed the Bijoux D'Hiver 2012 collection (read about it here). Still amongst the top 10 chocolatiers in North America, Jacek now has a new downtown location tucked in on 104th street and Jasper Ave, alongside favourites like Tzin and Evoolution.
