The Shrimp Factory, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - Awesome bacon wrapped cheese stuffed shrimp!

Rating Overall Food 7.5/10, Service 7.5/10 Imperial shrimp 9.5/10!
Tucked right along the main street around the marina, we find our way to this shrimp place after amazing shrimp in Puerto Vallarta at Blue Shrimp. We did our tour of the famous arches, Lovers Beach and the ajoining Divorce Beach... with so much beach time, how is it I always work up a voracious appetite for shrimp? Maybe it was the long walk from the beach back to downtown. There were numerous jewllery vendors harassing us along the way, but we finally made it inside the Shrimp Factory. The staff were really friendly - and while waiting for a table, we even met a couple from Edmonton, small world!

Wok N Roll Edmonton, AB - Tasty and inexpensive for family dinner

Rating Food 8.5/10, Service 9/10
With family in town (and noone feeling like cooking for a large group day after day), we headed to Wok N Roll for cheap but tasty eats.  We were glad that we made reservations as we had a large table, and as usual, the place was bustling with tables filling up as soon as they're vacated.  Service is polite and the kitchen proves to be again nearly super humanly efficient, as our food starts to come out of the kitchen within a few minutes of ordering

Muku Japanese Ramen, Calgary, AB - Best ramen with Tonkatsu broth in Calgary

Rating Food 7.5/10, Service 8/10
On a chilly night, me and my long time buddy swung by Muku to try out the ramen. There's something deeply comforting about a bowl of soft springy noodles in a hot flavorful broth. Maybe it's remenants from childhood memories, or just that hot, salty, fatty carbs totally hits the spot in the winter. Mmmm. We weren't craving the stuff that practically lives symbiotically in dorm rooms either.  We were aiming for fresh noodles, long, slow simmered broth and tasty toppings!

A Tacos Round-Up: Tres Carnales and Azucar Picante Edmonton AB, La Taqueria Vancouver BC, Chipotle and La Carta de Oaxaca Seattle WA, ¿Por Qué No? Taqueria Portland, OR

(Before you continue reading, this is NOT nomnomnom, the usual writer for this blog. Instead, in sort of a request, nomnomnom has been asking me to write a guest post for a while and, due to my recent trip, I thought this was a good topic to do so).
In the last couple of months, one of the most "talked" about restaurants in Edmonton has been that of Tres Carnales, a taquería, aka taco shop, opened in Howard Way in the Downtown area. Not sure if due to social media engagement from the owners or because it was "something different", it made quite a hit. However, when I visited it, I just thought it was something different but not necessarily the noise it was generating. Then again, it is just me and who cares what I think? Fast forward a couple of months and, in this blog, a post was written where nomnomnom and, just like me, wasn't really enthusiastic about it. What follows is what I consider a huge snafu by the owners: In a tweet, they write: "A bad review...warranted or no? You tell us!" (Facebook link to said tweet here) In my opinion, as a restaurant owner, they should have listened and addressed the situation, not preaching the choir or throwing them to the wolves. But, once again, who am I? Actually, that's where this post comes in. Since I tend to travel with certain frequency, that gives me a chance to try different cuisines from different parts of the world. As a result, I think I can provide some input about the overall subject. If you agree with this premise, please grab your favourite drink, as this will be a long post…

Where to start? How about we do so with the baseline, i.e., a taco made in Mexico City?

Sushi Wasabi Edmonton, AB - Tasty fresh hamachi special!

Rating Service 8/10, Food 9/10
With a yet another craving for sushi, we head to our favourite  family run Japanese sushi restaurant... Sushi Wasabi!  We noted on their specials board they had a hamachi special, so we ordered a smaller repast than our usual, so we could have tummy room for the hamachi special.  For what our "usuals" we've pigged out as a couple and with friends and family, the pics are here in our first review, second review and third review!  The place is packed (as usual) with couples out on a date, foodies, and families, and we can hear both Papa-san and Mama-san cheerfully choreographing the organised chaos in Japanese.  We grill the waitress about the hamachi special - How is it prepared, and how is it different than the sushi nigiri hamachi on the regular menu?  Turns out its prepared similar to the horse mackerel special, where the entire fish is initially served as sashimi with different dipping sauces, then afterwards, the bones are deep fried to a crunchy crisp and served in a ponzo sauce.  You had me sold at whole fish sashimi! Itadakimasu! :)
